Descripció i   Metodologia:   This course, organized by CIPA (Mons, Belgium) in collaboration with UMons (Faculté de Traduction et d’Interprétation) and UAB (Facultat de Lletres and Institut de Ciències de l’Educació), aims to train French, English, Spanish and/or Catalan teachers in the practical application of the Verbo-Tonal Method in the context of teaching-learning of foreign languages. It will offer non-specialists in phonetics the skills and the procedures to assess their students’ oral productions, as well as several strategies to correct their learners’ phonetic mistakes.
  
Objectius   1.To recognise the traditional methods of phonic material description and phonetic correction, their usefulness and limitations.
2.To know the linguistic and psycholinguistic founding principles of Verbo-Tonal System.
3.To acquire the skills to make a verbo-tonal diagnosis (error typology and categorization, degree of deviation in oral productions, didactic progression).
4.To know and to use several correction procedures according to the error system of each student.
5.To acquire the techniques and means to assess the learners’ oral productions: formative and summative assessment (depending on levels).
  
Continguts   1.Psycholinguistic experiments
-The perception of an unknown language by the course participants
-Speech structuring from phonological, grammatical and semantic perspective; the “phonological deafness”. Discussion.
2.The “traditional procedures” of phonic material description and phonetic correction
-Basic phonetic notions of language teachers;
-Cross-linguistic phonic comparison: criteria and variables;
-Critical analysis of “traditional procedures” of phonetic correction (articulatory, acoustic, phonological).
3.The verbo-tonal system:
-Linguistic and psycholinguistic bases;- “Language as system of systems”
-The “spoken language values” (rhythm, intonation, pauses, tension, speech rate, melody, situation etc.);
-Speech, gestures and body expression;
-Recent research and new outlooks on Verbo-tonal System and on teaching-learning methodology of pronunciation.
4.The Verbo-Tonal diagnosis and corrective procedures:
-Phonic material structuring
-SUVAG and training in teaching-learning languages; filtering techniques;
-The “error system: deviating productions in teaching-learning of foreign languages and in speech therapy;
-The “successive approximations” in the process of teaching-learning;
-Phonetic rhythms : stimulations by movement (motor function);
-Nuanced pronunciation, intonational variations, correlates.
5.Analysis and follow-up of didactic intervention:
-Analysis and characterisation of phonic perception;
-Analysis protocol of the evolution of pronunciation in language courses.
6.Practical workshops:
-Correction in praesentia of learners’ productions;
-Development of phonetic correction protocols;
-Methodology of spoken language in multilingual training.
7.Formative and summative assessment:
-Communicative acceptability degrees / pedagogical efficiency
-Teaching-learning progression: parameters and variables
